Wow, that headline is a bit of a tongue-twister!

I spied this beautiful crib over on Fawn & Forest yesterday and thought it was definitely worth mentioning. Just like yesterday’s post on the YiAhn convertible bassinet, this new cot/crib from Cariboo can “transform” into a toddler bed or a sofa with the right accessories. That’s a big plus for parents looking to invest in some quality furniture that will last a matter of years, instead of months.

Besides it’s impressive looks, the Kiwi is also made from sustainable Radiata timber with a biodegradable, earth-friendly finish.

There are, unfortunately, a couple of downsides. One, this crib is shipping from New Zealand — so, regardless of it’s eco-friendly properties, it will already carry a hefty carbon footprint. Two, it will set you back a staggering $1,559.00. However (and for some, this matters), it is a quality piece of furniture that can be used for many, many years to come. One of the adjectives used to describe it is “heirloom” and certainly, this crib could serve generations.

Anyways, it’s available for pre-order over on Fawn & Forest. You can also check out Cariboo’s other beautiful offerings here.

“The Baby K’tan has added security and back support as compared to the traditional sling, and added comfort and ease of use as compared to the traditional front carrier. Our unique design offers the wearer a 100% cotton carrier with NO buckles, snaps, rings or hardware, that otherwise make baby wearing complicated and uncomfortable. Our adjustable back support band offers the wearer extra back support and makes it easy to adjust baby or toddler’s weight distribution on both shoulders.”

We have a harness system with buckles and such at home — but I would love to give the Baby K’tan version a shot. Anyone else have good sucess with it?

The best way for any parent to go green is to simply buy or receive used items. However, if after viewing the UPPAbaby 2009 Vista Stroller you find yourself reaching for your wallet, I completely understand.

What’s so cool about the Vista is that it’s essentially two products in one. You get both a bassinet and seat — which are interchangeable. New to this year’s model, the bassinet is fully lined with organic soybean fiber and cotton. There’s also a pop-out SPF 50 canopy extension with 30% more sun coverage, zip-in weather shield and mesh bug/sun shield, and tons of room for backpacks, cell phones, etc.

UPPAbaby’s commitment to sustainability also extends to their business practices. They recycle materials from old and used strollers, donate gently-used strollers to charity, extensively recycle cardboard, and strive to reduce energy consumption and transportation costs.

But hey — we dig baby products that are easy to lug around, a cinch to setup, and gentle on the planet. UPPAbaby rocks all three categories. Check out their full list of products here.

Our baby bouncer is the best hand-me-down we ever received for our three month old. It’s basically our backup plan for those moments when Indy will not sleep in his crib. If I have one complaint, however, it’s that to rock the thing, you need to be bending over and moving it with your hand. There’s no real easy way to get a foot involved if you’re sitting on the couch and the baby is rocking near your feet.

Ah, but as indicated by the title, the Svan Bouncer (which looks like the something a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner would give birth to) has a bouncy foot option — and an adjustable seat for sleep or playtime. Here’s the description from The Little Seed website,

The Bouncer has a hard backrest to promote a straight back for baby’s still developing skeletal system. It is fully adjustable so that your baby can sneak in a nap, sit up to study the world around him or recline at any level in between. Dad can gently tap the Bouncer with his foot while catching up on the latest issue of Fortune, or Baby can rock himself and delight in the motion he created.

Wondering why they picked Fortune magazine as their example? Probably because this thing ain’t cheap — coming in at $155. Still, for those that take value in keeping their hands free while entertaining baby, that extra dough might just be worth it.

Green notes: Eco-friendly Bentwood Birchwood frame, cushion is chemical-free and does not contain PBDE.

Designs for baby cribs don’t generally stretch the imagination too much. Unless, of course, you’re looking to spend above $1K — then, things start to get interesting. The IoLine Baby Crib ($1,400) is a perfect example — with interesting cutouts and wood grain that would fit right in the most electic nursery. It’s also got some nice eco-touches — responsibly harvested bamboo wood, non-toxic finishes and adhesives; and, it adapts to your growing child. From the site,

Besides being used by Hollywood moms like Nicole Kidman and Camila Alves, the Market Sling by Serena and Lily is also a beautiful piece of design. Each one is hand-embroidery on 100% organic cotton and features a “super-soft brushed interior that is gentle against baby’s delicate skin.”

Celebrity Baby Blog recently had an opportunity to review one of the slings and gave it high marks — with the only downsides being its price ($129) and fit potential for more than one parent. From their review,

The color I tested is the Grass/Marigold combination with beautiful hand embroidery in ivory. When 7-month-old Egan, who is teething like crazy, started sucking on the padding, I didn’t worry for a second. It’s all organic cotton and had no “new-car smell” when I opened the pretty gift box it came in. The fabrics are so, so soft and the grass-green and butter-yellow colors are really striking. It’s so pretty that I left it on even after I took the baby out.

Personally, I’ve always found slings to be incredibly handy while attempting (I use that word lightly) to do other work while watching my newborn. Plus, they’re just one more arsenal is the quest to get them to sleep! Click here to continue reading the rest of CBB’s review — or visit Serena and Lilly’s site here.
