This is the third multi-use crib we’ve previewed (the YiAhn convertible bassinet and the Cariboo Kiwi Cot Crib being the other two) and besides our excitement of having more choice — they also seem to be getting “greener”.

The Q collection junior luna crib 3-in-1 transforms from a crib to a daybed and finally to a toddler bed. As with the others, you’ll get several years of use out of this one piece of furniture — a savings of sorts that make its $1,500 price tag a bit easier to swallow. As Fawn & Forest point out, it’s also eco friendly: “Made of a hardwood frame in locally sourced birch. The ends + applique elephants are made of no formaldehyde added MDF. All finishes are non-toxic, water based finish, free of VOC health hazards.”

Fawn and Forest have added yet another beautiful designer to their list of eco-friendly toys and furniture of kids. Called Roebuck Studio, they’ve taken some classic creatures (like frogs, birds, and rabbits) and combined them with rockers, storage units, and even scooters. The vibrant colors of the pieces only add to their appeal — but parents will also like they’re environmentally-friendly and safe for kids. All Roebuck Studio’s furniture parts are finished in traditional shellac, which creates a natural, durable, water-proof finish that can be wiped clean easily and they use water based interior wall paints for all their colors.

When it came to creating our nursery, my wife and I struggled with a lighting source. We finally found some cheap, inexpensive — but cool-looking — ceiling lights from Home Depot. Perhaps if I had spied the Illuminant Lamp earlier, it might have given more weight for an “Under-The-Sea” theme we had in mind. It looks very much like a jellyfish. In the end, we went with a forest setting, but this lamp would still look incredible in anyone’s modern apartment — or cave. Gizmodo gives us the details:

The lamp itself is suspended from the ceiling with fishing line and the LED shines up and reflects off the surface and the colored disks placed inside the shade.

Wow, that headline is a bit of a tongue-twister!

I spied this beautiful crib over on Fawn & Forest yesterday and thought it was definitely worth mentioning. Just like yesterday’s post on the YiAhn convertible bassinet, this new cot/crib from Cariboo can “transform” into a toddler bed or a sofa with the right accessories. That’s a big plus for parents looking to invest in some quality furniture that will last a matter of years, instead of months.

Besides it’s impressive looks, the Kiwi is also made from sustainable Radiata timber with a biodegradable, earth-friendly finish.

There are, unfortunately, a couple of downsides. One, this crib is shipping from New Zealand — so, regardless of it’s eco-friendly properties, it will already carry a hefty carbon footprint. Two, it will set you back a staggering $1,559.00. However (and for some, this matters), it is a quality piece of furniture that can be used for many, many years to come. One of the adjectives used to describe it is “heirloom” and certainly, this crib could serve generations.

I’m a big fan of investing cash in objects that will be useful for many years — something that’s often fleeting when it comes to baby accessories. This gorgeous and sustainable convertible Bassinet/Desk from YiAhn, however, seems like it would be a wonderful exception. Basically, you have transformer on your hands that can go from a bassinet to a bookshelf/toy bin, to a chair and table. The website estimates that this should be a useful piece of gear until your little one is suddenly 8 or 9 years old.

In terms of green cred, the YiAhn bassinet is made of Plyboo bamboo plywood, stainless steel, and chrome, and comes with 100% organic cotton sheets. In checking the website, I still don’t see anything with regards to price or availability, but I imagine it will be coming shortly. Have a look at additional photos and details here.
